Dreams of India

Two awesome things about today:

1. My boy just got back from a week in India, and brought me these amazing silk pillowcases back as a belated Valentines present. I’m ga-ga over them! As a bonus, they perfectly compliment my couch (despite the fact that he’s color-blind and thought they were purple). He definitely earned some points in my book!! Check out the elephants:

2. Also, I got a commission today to make a set of bowls! I’m so excited to make some pottery and think “Someone really wants these and asked ME to make them!” instead of “I’m making these, so I really hope somebody likes them…” It’s Pottery with a Purpose!

Je t’aime

Oh, yum. A painting from Kat Hannah that you can just spend all day looking at. I absolutely love her lush colors and family themes…what talent!

[I just learned that one of my readers bought Kat's painting. Congrats to her!]

A bottle of zen…

I have to laugh every time I see this “OM” beer cozy from Blisskitty. I guess there’s more than one way to reach inner peace!
Cheers!

Masticating Mastodon!

There is no way on earth I could pass on featuring a necklace titled “Masticating Mastodon”! This is the little paleontological creation of Galina Kirman Jewelry.

This piece really grabbed me because I spent at over a year wearing crocodile teeth on a necklace (after I picked them up on a brief stint working on a crocodile farm in Africa)…..I used to get stopped on the street, buses, everywhere, by people asking me what kind of teeth they were! They were finally so sharp, they started cutting through the hemp I had woven around them! Maybe I’ll have to get Galina to do some custom repairs to my crocodile babies, see if I can’t make a real respectable piece of jewelry out of them…

A happy home…

In my late-night internet meanderings, I was surprised and delighted to find a picture of one of my own cups, living out it’s own little life in a new and happy home. I am so honored and pleased to hear that they are brightening up someone’s day!! Thanks to everyone who has taken home a piece of my pottery – it’s wonderful to have a chance to be a part of your life!

Hunt for a Hat

Okay, don’t tell my mom, but I just spent another winter season without a hat. It’s not that I don’t WANT a hat…just I can never find the right one, you know? The one that’s cute and doesn’t make my head look funny, a color I like and a hat that’s stylish without being the same exact thing that every other chick in the city is wearing.
But I don’t think it’s a hopeless cause! Because I just discovered Paulette Jemmott-Wiley, of Dahlia Soleil, and I really love what she’s got going. Next fall I just may have to tell my mom to pass on those traditional birthday socks, and buy me a wool hat, instead!

Flights of fancy…

I love this little man, rowing off the edge of the world. It’s just one of the wild creations of Eric, the guy behind Still Life With Wire. It’s the product of his own unique process using silver wire, guitar strings, nail polish and finishing enamel. Don’t ask me how he does it, but I love his pieces – each one is like stepping into a little imaginary world…

I want…

…These! I really had trouble picking just one piece to feature from Stephanie, of Blue Lily Designs! But I had to show off these beautiful earrings! My favorite part is that the silver hoops are hand forged and hammered. It’s that kind of detail that I think brings you closer to the artist – you feel like someone really put the care, attention and craftsman’s skill into making the piece. Besides, who can resist turquoise?

A tote for all types

It seems that reusable tote bags are all the rage these days. But for some reason, I see a lot of people with “brand name” totes. Who says you can’t be green, and make a stylish, artsy statement? Certainly not Danielle, of Glowing Doll. I especially love the typewriter bag!
